Attention Fellow Patrollers!

Fellow Patrollers:

Please join us at the inaugural Sisu Ski Fest: Jan. 9, 2010 in Ironwood, MI (western UP)! The primary race is a 42K ski marathon, with a 21K BPLA Heikki Lunta Half Marathon, and a 10K "Taste" (a grazing tour of local restaurants while on skis). This early season event is expected to have great snow and a wide variety of skiers.

We currently estimate needing about 40 patrollers to ski the course, staff aid stations, help skiers at the "Finnish", and assist with a multitude of Sisu Patrol logistics. Modeled after the Birkie Patrol, patrollers of all skiing levels and interests are encouraged to participate. There will be no cost to participate and arrangements have been made to provide free lodging and low-cost group meals.

Tentative Itinerary:

In an effort to keep the group together as much as possible, we are offering free lodging on our farm and possibly, in the homes of other Indianhead Patrollers. The Farm includes our house plus a 3 BR/2 bath guest house, where we estimate a total of 25 patrollers can stay. Several Indianhead patrollers also own homes in the area, some of which we expect will be available. Please bring a sleeping bag, sleeping pad or inflatable mattress (in case your spot is carpeted floor space), and your own towels. Of course, there are several local motels in Bessemer we can recommend if you prefer.

Meals are also intended to be group events, except for Sat. lunch (BYO snacks or downtown restaurants). Patrol headquarters will be at the Ironwood Memorial Building, which is also Race HQ and the location of the "Finnish" line. Indianhead Mt. has generously offered the use of one of their vans for just the Patrol, easing transport logistics between race course stations; carpooling between Bessemer and the race, and to/from our meals is encouraged.
