Greetings and "thank you" from the inaugural SISU SKI FEST organizing committee

Greetings and "thank you" from the inaugural SISU SKI FEST organizing committee. Over 400 skiers signed up, which made for a great first time success. For your information, we ended up with 110 contributors who gave either cash or invaluable in-kind contributions. The contributions and the volunteers ensured the financial and structural success of the first event.

There was an Expo held at the Memorial Building Auditorium Friday night and Saturday, which showcased a variety of vendors. Patrons could shop for ski gear, SISU items, art work and even get a massage. The awards celebration was held at the Ironwood Theater on Saturday. From feedback we received it is clear that our guests were quite taken by the elegance and stature of both the Auditorium and the Theater.

We are also very grateful for the 200+ volunteers who came to register racers, serve moijakka, staff aid stations and many other tasks. They were vital to a successful event and they helped pull it off! They made the race day go very smoothly and showed enthusiastic support for the racers. In surveys returned from the racers, volunteer support was mentioned in nearly every letter. Many surveys commented on "What nice people live here." This event united us as a community that weekend, and it was phenomenal for those who participated.

For all this we are very grateful and say "thank you" once again. The racers have told us we put on a great event and that there will be more attending next year because they are going to be telling their friends! Looking ahead, the committee is already working on making the 2011 SISU SKI FEST even better.
